Maria Mihura Barreneche passed away on January 28, 2019 in Merritt, British Columbia, Canada.

She left her native Baztan as a young girl to emigrate and to form, along with her husband, also a baztandarra, her home in Vancouver and British Columbia. She was the mother of three children, David (+), Isabel (in Mexico) and Toby (in Vancouver).

She and her family have been members since the beginning of the Zazpiak Bat Basque Club in Vancouver; her son David, who passed away in 1999, was president and vice president and representative for Canada at the 1999 World Congress of Basque Communities.

The funeral mass in her memory will take place this Saturday, February 2 at 11:00 in Merritt, in the Sacred Heart parish church.
