Nick passed away at 97 years old at his home. He was born to Basque parents, Jose and Dominica Yragui in Stockton, CA. Losing his mother at eight years old their father returned to Spain with their five children and he was raised by his grandparents.

He joined the U.S. Army Airforce at 22, was shot down after 12 missions, and spent 15 months in POW camps. 

Nick and Thelma were married in 1947 and were blessed with three children before he entered college at the University of Idaho. He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree and a total of six children. Five more children were born and raised in Nick’s 32 years with the Corps of Engineers. He volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul for many years, repairing bicycles and anything electrical. He could build and fix anything and was called upon by his many children for home repairs. He valued his Catholic faith; all 11 children attended Catholic School. He and Thelma attended daily Mass, Rosary, and adoration at Assumption Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 65 years. He was a quiet, humble man of few but wise words, a loving husband, and father who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma of 70 years, and 10 of his 11 children. Cheryl Bruner (Jim Larrabee) of Williams, OR, Sue (Jim) Fernald of Lacey, WA, Linda (Don) Forbes of Central Point, OR, Teresa Yragui of Walla Walla, William (Josefina) Yragui of Fremont, CA, David (Mary Jeanne) Yragui of Kenai, AK, Michelle (Nicolo) Moramarco of Walla Walla, Karen Province of Boise, ID, Patty (David) Konen of WallaWalla, Christine (Wayne) Carpenter of Catheys Valley, CA. Nick is survived by two brothers, Edward Yragui of Twin Falls, ID., and Leon (Rae) Yragui of Portland, OR. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen Yragui Dravich; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Alice, Boniface, and Robert Yragui. He is survived by 28 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral Mass and Rosary will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 9:30 a.m., Assumption Catholic Church, 2098 E. Alder, Walla Walla. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery (St. Johns section).

Memorial contributions can be made to Assumption Catholic Church, Catholic Charities of Walla Walla or St. Vincent De Paul of Walla Walla through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla WA.
