The call for scholarships in the specialization of Foreign Action in Gasteiz, Brussels, Santiago and Bogota is published in the BOPV

Publication of in the BOPV of scholarships for specialization in Foreign Action 2018

The BOPV published on Tuesday, January 2nd included the call from the Basque Government’s Secretary General of Foreign Action for 8 scholarships specialized in Foreign Action in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Brussels, Santiago and Bogota.  Tomorrow, the month-long application period begins.  Scholarships last for 12 months and are aimed at degree holders looking for experience in this field: 4 for Gasteiz, 2 for Brussels, 1 for Santiago, Chile and 1 for Bogota, Colombia.

“Argia” magazine interviews Basque anthropologist from Argentina, Julieta Gaztañaga who is currently in Euskal Herria

Julieta Gaztañaga (Bahia Blanca, Argentina 1977) is an anthropologist.  She had no reference through her family of her Basque background, beyond the verification of that fact, which her own last name proved, with some people having difficulty in pronouncing it.  But carrying the last name did not bring along with it the content or knowledge about the culture, so Julieta tried to acquire it by jumping into the Euskaltegi Euskaltzaleak in Buenos Aires.  Danele Sarriugarte interviewed her in Argia

The main Boise daily includes a New Basque Cuisine restaurant in his New Year wish list

The New Year is around the corner and everyone is making wishes along with James Patrick Kelly, food critic for the Idaho Statesman, the main paper in Boise who was not going to be outdone: he wants a New Basque Cuisine Restaurant.  The journalist argues that the “City of Trees” has good establishments for traditional Basque cooking, but that he misses a more creative step.  Who knows if Santa Claus or Olentzero will listen to him and make his wish come true?

The Elko, NV local press names Lopategui’s “Ogi Deli,” one of the top 10 businesses of 2017 in town

Anamarie (Sarratea) Lopategui and Mikel Lopategui are a young couple who are very well-known in Basque circles in Nevada with well-deserved recognition as musicians, she plays the triki and he the pandero. They are also the owners of the “Ogi Deli” (Ogi is bread in Basque) a very popular deli/bar in Elko.  This week the Elko Daily classified them as one of the top 10 business of 2017 in Elko.

The Navarrese club in Rosario will be the site of Basque dance and music workshops in February with Ortzadar from Pamplona

Participation of the club’s dantzaris in Rosario at the 2017 Festival of Collectivities

Four dantzaris and a txistulari from the Ortzadar group will be in charge of the workshops from February 3-10 for representatives of Navarrese centers in Argentina.  By the end of 2018, the club foresees the meeting of Navarrese centers in the country, with Uxue Barkos potentially attending herself.  In the words of Raul Osvaldo Amatriain, president of the center in Rosario who told EuskalKultura.com: “When I met with the authorities in Navarre, I asked them for cultural support and I was very well-received.”
